Presenting with Visuals

Whether you use PowerPoint slides or hand-made flip charts, these pointers on presenting with visuals will help make your next presentation more professional.

  • Overview the information
Introduce the slide to the audience, giving a broad overview of the information it contains.
  • Tell each "story"
After the introduction, explain each bulleted point the slide contains -- tell the slide's stories. Tailor the level of detail you use to the needs of your audience.
  • Deliver the key message
After you have told the stories, emphasize the major message or key "take away" from the slide. This message should be the last thing you say to the audience.
  • Move on
Don't be tempted to tell everything you know. Only include the essential points the audience needs to be informed.

These techniques will not only help you better organize your information but will increase the audience's understanding and memory.
